Broadoak Gardens

Just 20 minutes north of Christchurch, in the rural setting of Ōhoka, you’ll find Broadoak—a place where thoughtful garden design and a sense of calm come together. Set within ten acres of farmland, Broadoak is home to a two-acre English-style garden that has grown and evolved with care over many years.

The garden takes inspiration from traditional English estates, with a mix of formal design, open spaces, and quiet corners. Recognised by the New Zealand Gardens Trust as a Garden of Significance, and awarded a 5-star rating, it is a place to explore slowly. Garden rooms connect through sheltered pathways, with topiary, mosaic ponds, and formal borders gradually giving way to areas planted with native species. Sculptures by New Zealand artists are placed throughout the grounds, adding interest along the way.

Weddings at Broadoak feel naturally at home here. There’s a strong sense of place, and the gardens offer a calm and inviting backdrop for both ceremony and celebration. While couples take time for photographs, guests can relax in The Bike n Bovine—an authentic Olde English pub tucked into the property. With its timber interior and warm atmosphere, it provides a comfortable space for people to gather.

The venue includes all-weather paths and parking and is suitable for wheelchair users. Broadoak can host weddings of up to 80 guests, plus the wedding party. For smaller celebrations of up to 25 people, we offer a more intimate package with the same level of service and care.

Accommodation is available on site. The two-bedroom, self-contained Cottage offers a quiet space for preparation before the wedding, and a restful place to stay afterward.
